General Elections Nigeria:

The General elections 2019 will be on 16th February 2019. The general election is a process where all the members or candidates of a certain political party are elected at the same time. I.e. it is a nationwide election to select the candidates of a political party to form the Government of that country. In Nigeria, General elections will be conducted on the same day across the Federal Republic of Nigeria to elect the President of Nigeria and the National Assembly.

What is INEC?

The full form of INEC is Independent National Electoral Commission. INEC was established by the 1999 constitution to organize the elections across the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

What are the Functions of INEC?

The basic duty of INEC – Independent National Electoral Commission is to conduct the elections across the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Apart from organizing elections the other functions of INEC are:

  • INEC organizes the elections in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
  • INEC registers the political parties according to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
  • INEC monitors the complete operations of the registered political parties.
  • INEC examines all the transactions and funds of the registered political parties and publishes the annual report.
  • INEC educates the Citizens and Voters of Nigeria by conducting the voter education.
  • INEC monitors the political campaigns to not to break the rules and regulations.

Voters Register:

A register is an authentic list of information. The register may be an authorized list of knowledge. In this context register is an authorized Record which maintains the authentic electoral list. In Nigeria, these electoral registers are maintained by the INEC officers. The basic duty of INEC officers is to register the votes and to maintain the authentic electoral register of Nigeria.

Election:

An election is a mechanism which was introduced in the 17th century to give the right to the people of that state or country or local bodies to choose or to elect a public representative on behalf of them. An election is a group of people decide where the people make their own decision to elect a suitable representative for them. The election is a common man’s tool where the common man will have 100% right and freedom to choose his/her representative on behalf of them. Therefore register to vote is a mandatory thing for a Citizen of that country because the right to vote enables a person for deciding and selecting the rightful person through voting.

General Election:

Election Day:

In Nigeria, the General elections are held on a particular day and that day is called as Election Day. On the Election Day all the eligible citizens of Nigeria who is having the vote they all vote on the same day across the country.

Election Results in Nigeria:

The election is a common man tool which was introduced to choose or to elect a public representative on behalf of them. The election is a common man’s right where the common man will have 100% right and freedom to choose his representative. Therefore to participate in the election is a mandatory thing for a Citizen of Nigeria because the right to vote enables a person for deciding and selecting the rightful person through voting. After each and every election the results will be declared and these election results will be available for all the Citizens of that country.

Candidate:

A candidate is a person who participates in the election from a party. Generally, a party nominates a person to contest the election on behalf of their party. Depending on the number of parties the count of candidates will be increased or decreased. Each and every party nominates an eligible person as a candidate for a particular position for which the election is going to be conducted. A Candidate is a person who is participating in the election to seek the position for which the election is being held.

Ballot:

The ballot is a device or piece of paper or an electronic device which is used to cast vote during the election. Electors or voters by using the ballot cast their votes at the time of the election. If a piece of paper is used during the election for casting the votes then that piece of paper is called as Ballot Paper. These Ballot papers are unique for each and every individual voter. No Ballet paper will be used by two individuals.

Vote:

A vote is a common man’s right according to the constitutional laws of that country. The vote is a very common right to the Citizens of a country and the right to vote gives 100% freedom to choose or to elect the public representative on their own. Election decides the public representative of that Village or Town or City or District or region or county or state or territory or country.  Whatever the election type may be the selection of the public representative completely depends on the votes of the people. Therefore use your vote to make the difference.

Electoral Register:

Electoral register or Electoral roll is an authentic record or list of Nigerian Citizens who are eligible to vote during the elections. Electoral Register or a Poll book is an authorized record which contains the list of Nigerian Nationals who are eligible to cast their vote on the Election Day. In Nigeria, these electoral registers are maintained by the INEC officers at the INEC Offices.
